I am grateful to have lived and worked in San Francisco for 7 years during the 1990's Dot-com era. It is by far my favorite city in the US where I felt at home right away and where I met my wife and many good friends. Not only is it a melting pot of European and Asian cultures and their finest cuisine, but it also offers such diversity in landscape and climate that cannot be rivalled

In addition to skiing Lake Tahoe's mountains (a short 3 hour drive from the city), amongst which Sugarbowl and Alpine Meadows are my favorites, outstanding hiking, biking and golf courses abound. I used to ride my bike across the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito and Tiburon where I taught myself to play golf and then had the good fortune to play Pebble Beach near Carmel. In Tiburon, make sure to have lunch at Sam's Anchor Cafe. When visiting Monterey and the famous 17-Mile Drive, my restaurant picks in Monterey are: Sandbar & Grill and Paris Bakery

Living in the Marina District, my daily commute was on the 30 Stockton bus, which runs past Ghirardelli Square, Fisherman's Wharf, Little Italy, Chinatown, and finally my end stop of Union Square. I highly recommend anyone visiting SF to ride this Muni bus and explore these city highlights and neighborhoods. In Chinatown, my favorite authentic restaurant is R&G Lounge famous for it's chili crab

The world class wine region of Napa Valley and Sonoma is just a short drive from San Francisco and where I was married with reception held at the Chardonnay Golf Club. Among my favorite wineries to visit and do tastings are: Altamura, Chimney Rock, Cakebread, Peju, St. Francis, B.R. Cohn and Domaine Carneros. My restaurant picks include: Tra Vigne & Tra Vigne Pizzeria, Mustards Grill and Rustic at Francis Ford Coppola winery. For an exclusive retreat, stay at Las Alcobas in Saint Helena

Beyond Napa Valley heading east over two mountain ranges, you will find Lake Berryessa where summer temperatures often hit 100F. One of the largest bodies of fresh water in California, Lake Berryessa offers boating, water skiing, wake-boarding, tubing and other fast-paced water sports, plus quiet coves for kayaking, swimming and fishing
