My Swiss heritage runs deep and is routed in the lower Engadin Valley where Rumantsch is spoken, Switzerland's 4th official language. Scuol is uniquely located close to the Austrian and Italian border and an exhilarating 2.5 hour drive from Zurich. There are two options to access lower Engadin from Zurich and both are equally exciting. The first is for the courageous driver who wishes to tackle the epic Fluela Pass (weather permitting) which originates in Davos. The second, and quicker option, is driving one's car onto a vehicle only train which links lower Engadin to Klosters via the world's longest narrow gauge tunnel
Engadin is famous for it's alpine meats and cured dried beef known as puolpa (Bundnerfleisch). There is no better butcher in the valley than Hatecke in Scuol where meats are displayed like gems in a jewelers store. Fresh breads and alpine cheeses are also regional delicacies as well as pear bread known as pan cun paira. My favorite local baker in Scuol is Erni
This book shares details about some of the old families originating from the village of Sent, including my own family on my mother's side dating back 400 years
My ancestor, Johann Peder Stupan was a Swiss mercenary who became general under King Louis XIV and married Anne-Charlotte de Gondi, the King's cousin

Perched above Scuol, at 1,450 meters above sea level, Sent is one of the most beautiful mountain villages throughout the Engadin
My favorite place to eat in Sent is Chasa Veglia known for their cheese fondue and other regional specialties. In summer, get a table on the terrace and enjoy the view!
